On September 26th, 13 of our 7th and 8th grade students auditioned for the Florida Vocal Association’s All State Musicianship test. This is a very difficult exam, covering listening skills, musical error detection, chord quality, basic music theory, and musical vocabulary. There was also a Sight Singing component to the test, where students are given between 10 and 30 seconds to look over a musical example before they sing it using the Kodaly solfege system.
All three 8th grade students and one 7th grade student who auditioned made it to the second level of testing. Upon passing the 2nd level of testing, these students will be given an opportunity to perform at the FMEA Music Education Conference in Tampa, Fl. The ensembles consist of about 250 other middle school students from all around the state. We are very proud of all our students who auditioned and good luck to those who will participate in Level 2 testing on October 19th!
